Choosing the Right Memory Foam Pillow
Memory foam describes the material, but it doesn't tell you everything about how a pillow will feel. Height, shape, firmness, foam construction and cooling features can all make a noticeable difference. Your sleeping position and the mattress beneath you should also be considered before choosing.
Memory Foam Pillows & Sleeping Position
Sleeping position is a useful starting point when choosing pillow height, although shoulder width, body shape and mattress firmness also affect the space between your head and the bed.
Side Sleepers
Side sleepers generally require enough height to fill the space created by the shoulder. Shoulder width and how far you sink into your mattress are particularly important.
Back Sleepers
Back sleepers often prefer a moderate profile that supports the head without creating excessive height. The shape of the memory foam pillow can also influence the feel.
Front Sleepers
Front sleepers generally require less height, so a deep memory foam pillow may not suit everyone who sleeps predominantly in this position.
Your Mattress Changes the Pillow You Need
A softer mattress allows your shoulders and body to sink further into the bed, reducing the distance between your head and the mattress. A firmer mattress generally allows less sink. This means a memory foam pillow that feels perfectly comfortable on one mattress can feel too high or too low on another.
What About Cooling Memory Foam Pillows?
Some sleepers enjoy the contouring feel of memory foam but are more conscious of temperature around the head and pillow. Several pillows in our range use cooling-focused features alongside memory foam, giving you alternatives to a traditional solid foam design.
Cooling constructions vary between products, so compare the individual specifications rather than assuming every cooling memory foam pillow works in exactly the same way.
Choosing a Pillow for Costa Blanca Summers
During the warmer months in the Costa Blanca, your pillow is only one part of keeping the bed comfortable. Pillowcases, bed linen, mattress protectors, duvets and the mattress itself can all influence how warm your sleeping environment feels.

Both can provide a supportive sleeping surface, but their response and overall feel are noticeably different.
Memory Foam
Responds more slowly to pressure and contours around the head, creating the distinctive moulded and cushioning sensation associated with memory foam.
Talalay Latex
More responsive and springy, latex pushes back against pressure and returns to shape quickly as you move.

If you like to repeatedly plump, fold and reshape your pillow, a traditional fibre or feather & down pillow may feel more familiar. Memory foam is generally chosen by customers who prefer a more stable pillow shape and a contouring sensation. Neither is automatically better — they simply provide very different sleeping experiences.
Caring for a Memory Foam Pillow
Always check the manufacturer's care instructions before cleaning a memory foam pillow. The foam core and removable cover may have different care requirements, and a removable washable cover does not necessarily mean that the foam itself can be machine washed. Using a suitable pillow protector can provide an additional washable layer during everyday use.
